Show Me The Money!

The Bowl(sh*t) Championship Series.

A few more pointless observations on the $cash cow$ that will prevent us from ever seeing a playoff in D-1 College football:

Participants by Conference (teams only counted once): Big Ten-7; Pac Ten-7; SEC-6; Big Twelve-6; Big East-5; ACC-3; Other-2.

The only school to represent two conferences: Virginia Tech (Big East in 2000 and ACC in 2005)

Most appearances in the BCS: Florida State - 6 (1999, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2006)

Most Wins (Conference): Big Ten - 8

Least Wins (Conference): ACC - 1

Most Wins (Team): Ohio State 4-0

Most Wins (Coach): Jim Tressel, Ohio State; Pete Carroll, USC - 3

Most Multiple Entries (Conference): Big Ten - 5

Least Multiple Entries (Conference): ACC - 0; Big East - 0

Best Conference: Big Ten (3 wins)
Best Team: Ohio State 3-0

Best Conference: SEC (4 wins)
Best Team: LSU 2-0

Best Conference: Big Ten; Pac 10; SEC; Big East (2 wins)
Best Team: Florida 2-0

Best Conference: Big 12 (3 wins)
Best Team: Texas; Wisconsin 2-0

Conference Summary:

Big 10 (8-5) 1 BCS Championship
SEC (7-4) 2 BCS Championships
Pac 10 (6-4) 1 BCS Championship
Big 12 (5-7) 2 BCS Championships
Big East (4-4) 1 BCS Championship
ACC (1-7) 1 BCS Championship
Mountain West (1-0)
Notre Dame (0-2)

PseudoSummary:

The BCS sucks and all of the administrators and "suits" that try to convince us it isn't solely about money are just kidding themselves. They do not care about a student athlete beyond what he can do for the institution. They are not committed to academia or the NCAA basketball tournament wouldn't last for the entire month of March (the championship game typically culminates the tournament on the first Monday of April). A playoff works for Division 1-AA, Division 2, Division 3, and so on and so forth. Stop the madness and at least admit it's about the money.

The Big Ten has prospered in this system, though. They are the only Conference to win at least one of each of the four bowl games that comprise the BCS; they have won the most BCS games (8); five times they have sent an at-large bid in addition to their conference champion (compared to three for the SEC and zero for the ACC and Big East) and won two BCS bowls in the same season more times (3) than all five of the other BCS Conferences combined.

The worst conference? It isn't even close: The Atlantic Coast Conference. Sorry Jinxy .
